Motorists plying the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway reported frustration over the collapse of a section of an access ramp linking the highway to the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway bridge. The damaged section had remained unattended for an extended period, with the situation worsening after recent rainfall left the collapsed portion submerged in floodwater, making it impossible for drivers to assess the depth of the damage.
A correspondent observed vehicles moving at a crawl as drivers carefully manoeuvred around the affected section. Motorists described the road as becoming a trap, particularly at night when poor visibility compounded the risk of robbery. Ride-hailing drivers warned that the damaged section could expand if not addressed, as continuous water flow around the affected area could worsen erosion.
The motorists urged the Ministry of Works and other relevant agencies to carry out immediate repairs before the situation deteriorated further. The Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure spokesperson could not be reached for comment.
